2024 WSSP Aragón, weekend
This weekend at Aragón started with some solid progress on Friday. In the morning free practice, we managed to close the gap to the fastest riders by mid-session. Unfortunately, I had a crash towards the end while improving my personal best, but the time on track provided us with useful data to analyze ahead of the afternoon. In the Superpole session, we focused on improving the feeling with the front of the bike. The gap to the fastest time was very tight, and we knew we had room for improvement. We just needed to find something for the front feeling to make a step forward in the warm-up.
Saturday’s race was tough. I’m happy we managed to finish, especially after the disappointment at Cremona, but our goal was to end in the points zone. I had a decent start and stayed at the back of the main group, but I was still struggling with the front of the bike, so I had to be cautious not to crash. By the last third of the race, I was in the points, but my tyres were worn out on the final laps, forcing me to drop my pace. While it was frustrating not to hold my position, we gained valuable data that we put to use for Sunday’s race.
Sunday brought some improvement. In the morning warm-up, we tried a different setup for the front, and the bike felt better—I could brake harder and with more confidence. However, during the race, I got stuck early on and couldn’t move up in the field. I didn’t feel the extra grip from the tyres in the opening laps, which prevented me from pushing as much as I wanted to. On the bright side, I was more consistent and faster than on Saturday, so we definitely made a step forward. While I’m a bit disappointed not to reach the points zone, the progress we made is encouraging as we look ahead to the next race.
